UPDATE: We've moved vMix down to the bottom of the review because some of the changes to the company have made the site difficult to categorize as a video share site. As of right now, vMix is actually a "software as a service" that enables companies and other web entities to host their own video. While you obviously can still use it to host your videos, it's not nearly as user oriented as the top 3 services in this review: YouTube, Metacafe and Break. The original review is posted below, and the vMix service still has the same types of features, but there is no website to visit where you can post your videos and share them with others.
vMix offers video and photo hosting. The site caters to social networking—you can view other people’s profiles and their uploaded media and even leave them a message.
Though vMix is a good all around video share site, we were disappointed in the customer support they provide.
vMix has most of the basic features that pertain to the audience. These features include a search box, categories, screen shot preview and user submitted video rating.
This video share site has some unique features that cater to those who want to upload content for others to enjoy. One of these features, called talking heads, is a section with celebrities, political figures and cartoon figures so you can create a video of you talking and insert your mouth on their head so it looks as if they are talking.
vMix also makes it easy to create a slideshow. The Slideshow Wizard will guide you through the entire process. Once your video or slideshow is uploaded, you can categorize it, add keywords and choose to display it publicly or privately.
vMix has a wide range of videos and pictures. You can view the top 100, the most recent or sort them by genre. The site has 15 different categories including Animation, Dance, Family and Political. There is a lot of animation on this video share site.
Ease of Use
vMix is an easy site to use. It’s easy to play and search for videos and the movies load quickly and there are no lags.
vMix doesn’t have a lot of help and support options. The main form of support comes through a FAQs page; however, we did come across a tutorial that explains how to create a slideshow on vMix.
Overall, vMix is a decent video share service that also allows users to submit and browse photographs as well. This is a fun site to check out and browse.
