What makes Vimeo special?

There are a lot of sites for sharing video clips. Vimeo is different becase it is much more personal than other sites. Most clips on Vimeo were made by the person who uploaded them.

How can Vimeo make my life better?

There’s something very satisfying about posting a video and getting feedback from friends and strangers. You don’t need to put a lot of effort into your videos, either. Sometimes just talking to the camera is really entertaining. It’s better to make something quick and cheap, and just get it out there, then to sit on a BIG IDEA that never turns into anything.

Can people upload TV shows, porn, or videos from other websites?

No. Vimeo is not a place to dump clips you found elsewhere. As for porn, it offends most of our users, and there are plenty of other places you can find it. Vimeo is not a place for porn.

Nobody is watching my videos or commenting on them!

Maybe you should start watching and commenting on other people’s clips. If you’re nice, they’ll watch your clips and comment on them. Another option is to invite your friends to Vimeo.

What are tags? What’s the point?

If you tag a clip with “balloon”, then people will find it when they’re looking for clips of balloons.

I use Linux and I can’t watch your videos!

Vimeo uses Flash 8 video, which is superior to Flash 7. Unfortunately, the Flash 8 player is not yet available for Linux. We care about Linux users, but accomodating them is not, in our opinion, worth the tradeoff of giving inferior quality video to the other 99%. On the bright side, Macromedia says the Flash 8.5 player will be released shortly after the Windows and Mac version of that version.

I can't embed videos in LiveJournal!

LiveJournal doesn’t allow you to embed videos because they claim it is a security risk. If you want to embed video in your LiveJournal, you should contact them and ask for them them to add support for embedded Flash objects. Read more in their FAQ.
